ABOUT US

Avery & Navi

A little bit about me (Avery).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My interest in pet nutrition, and general animal welfare, came well before Navi. I did my undergraduate degree in Animal Biology, minoring in Nutritional Sciences, and continued to do my Masters of Science in Animal Biosciences at the University of Guelph. Navi didn't come into our lives until the end of my MSc, and at that time raw wasn't even in the picture for us.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Going to the biggest agricultural school in Canada, I was surrounded by young farmers and researchers and learnt a ton about the Canadian agricultural industry. However, with that also came electives in the companion animal side of things. Being a school basically sponsored by Royal Canin, raw was never a hot topic, but you still got the fundamentals behind companion animal needs, formulating diets and nutritional requirements.

When we got Navi, I was so anal about what I was going to feed her. I searched high and low for the 'best' kibble brands and read every ingredient panel with a fine tooth comb. Raw didn't even come to fruition for us until Navi had persistent skin issues. Dry, scabby skin, often puss filled pimples, that wouldn't resolve with antibiotics. One day she got a hot spot & that was the end of the food trial battle for us. No more kibble.

I had sort of been researching raw and the benefits, and decided I was going to pick some up to try. It wasn't even a week, and Navs skin had totally cleared. She wasn't itchy, her hot spot was drying up and she was totally a different dog.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
& so we began our raw journey.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now almost three years later, we've done pre-made, we've moved onto DIY, I have completed a few courses in raw feeding and balancing raw meals, Navi is absolutely thriving and I would never look back.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am always learning, always inspired, and always excited to watch my dog eat the ancestral diet!
